Understanding Venmo Fees and Selling Costs
Venmo offers a convenient platform for peer-to-peer transactions and business payments. While many services are free, certain transactions incur fees. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of Venmo’s fee structure to help you navigate costs effectively.
Personal Account Fees
For personal accounts, Venmo maintains a straightforward fee policy:
Transaction Type | Fee | Details |

Sending money using linked bank account, debit card, or Venmo balance | $0 | No fee applies. |
Sending money using linked credit card | 3% | A 3% fee is charged for credit card transactions. |
Receiving money | $0 | Receiving funds is free unless marked as a purchase. |
Receiving payments marked as goods and services | 2.99% | Applies when the sender tags the payment for goods or services. |
Instant Transfers | 1.75% (min $0.25, max $25) | Transfers to your bank account typically within 30 minutes. |

Business and Charity Profile Fees
Businesses and charities using Venmo are subject to specific transaction fees:
- Business Profiles: A fee of 1.9% + $0.10 per transaction applies to payments received of $1.00 or more. For Tap to Pay payments, the fee is 2.29% + $0.09.
- Charity Profiles: A standard fee of 1.9% + $0.10 is charged for each donation received.
These fees are automatically deducted from the payment amount.
How to Avoid Unnecessary Venmo Fees
To minimize costs:
- Use free funding sources: Link a bank account or Venmo balance instead of credit cards.
- Opt for standard transfers: Wait 1 - 3 days to avoid instant transfer fees.
- Mark transactions correctly: Personal payments between friends should not use the "Goods & Services" option.
For official details, refer to Venmo’s fee page. Note that fees may change, so always verify rates before transacting.
